FOI request uncovers almost $3 million in overtime for police and fire in West Hartford in 2010

Through some diligent work by West Hartford News reporter Kathleen Schassler, she was able to get financial data on overtime paid for by the town in 2010 (the most recent numbers available).
Turns out, the town spent almost $3 million in overtime for police and fire during that one year.
Union contracts largely control the amount of money the town spends on overtime, but in a tight economy when taxpayers are faced with a 4.7 percent property tax increase all operational budgets have come under scrutiny.
